13.2.7 :-) Anthony
Immediacy is hard to argue against and if you're like me and procrastinate (hey, I was 20 days late
for my own birth) as well as have a fairly taxing day job, it can at
times be vital to success. But the solution here is responsibility on both the student's part and the
professor's ? you can't wait to work on an assignment until the day
it's due and then expect to be able to get an answer to a question post haste (you won't get it off-line
either) ? the exception of course is the telephone, however,
regardless of the format when it's 10pm at night and the assignment is due at midnight or the next day
in the classroom ? it's too late to be asking questions. However,
on the professor's end especially when an assignment due date is getting closer they have to be available
to answer questions, that's a requirement of the job when
online. I realize everyone has lives, but that's an excuse you wouldn't dream of giving your boss in
response to their queries. The solution is a backup, a teacher's aid
that can help field the questions too. I've seen less of these online than in the traditional classroom
and considering that most teaching aids are students too the
flexibility of online teaching may be more conducive to their needs as well.
