13.16.5 :-) Linda L. Markham
The assumption is that in distance eduaction, the instructors are removed from the experience. But
just the oppositealso can be true. The Virtual College, published in
1996, surmises that faculty members have to micromange onlinestudents far more intently than those on
campus. In addition, outside professionals (ie. Otto Peters
and BorjeHolmberg) can be electronically brought in to offer their expertise. Distance education students
benefit from industryexperts who would ordinarily not be able
to come on-campus on a regular basis. On line they can, no matter wherethey're actually located.
13.16.9 :-? Lisa
I agree with the opportunity to bring in instructors from the industry to participate with student in
an online discussion.
My point was the lack of support some students, like myself, experience with online learing. The limited
opportunites to experience visual learning and have immediate
feedback for questions I ask in online discussions leaves me feeling as ifI'm not succeeding in my studdies.
My experience with online discussions have left me feeling
isolated and my learning astruggle. I'm wondering if the superiority of online learning is one I will
ever experience.
