Your posting serves to illustrate one of the reasons DE is not necessarily as good as or better than
face-to-face. I haveseen several reponses to a posting that I made
about independent learning addressed to other people as if they were theoriginal author. It seemed to
happen the most when I addressed a rebuttal to a specific person.
In turn, a responsewould be made to the person I was responding to as if they were me. It may be the
limitation of the technology or thedifficulty in following the thread
of the debate. Nevertheless, in a face-to-face class, people would know who said whatand to whom to
direct the next round of debate. No, DE may be different, may be
better suited for some educationaltasks, but in the overall picture--not better.
