I would have to disagree with your statement of "help is just a click away". This was not
true for me with our first graded assignment. It took almost a week for me to
get an answer as to why my grade was not posted in my assignment folder. I sent emails to everyone I
could (Christine, group members, and Thomas). Finally, after
some anxiety ridden days, Thomas informed me by email my essay had not be read or graded. If Thomas
was an instructor for a traditional course, I control the
situation by seeing him in person at the end of class as soon as I knew others had received their grade.
With online learning, I could not control when Thomas
accessed his email or anyone else for that matter. This experience caused doubts about online learning
to arise; which I'm still working on as we near the end of this
course.
How is this a problem with DE though? This is a problem with the professor and could just as easily
occur offline as it can online. DE was always there for the professor
to use to respond to you. You could keep sending emails, and keep posting until you received a response.
