Center for Distance Education

Areas of responsibilities

The Centre for Distance Education at Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg and its branch in Emden at the University of Applied Sciences North-West Lower Saxony support Lower Saxony students of the FernUniversität, as well as such of other German as well as international distance teaching institutions in higher education, such as the British Open University, the Dutch Open Universiteit, and the Spanish Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia.

Since 1995, the Centre for Distance Education hosts a branch of the General Secretariat of the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE).

The student support services, offered to students of the FernUniversitaet, centre around advice, guidance and tutorials in accordance to the various courses of study. Since 1996, tutorials are also offered in an online format.

The Centre for Distance Education and the respective central units of the universities in Bremen, Hamburg, Hildesheim, and Lüneburg have formed a EuroStudyCentre North-West Germany (ESC NWG) to forster European programmes in distance education. The ESC NWG is a member of the EuroStudyCentre Platform Group, a network of the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU).

The Centre for Distance Education at Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg is a multifunctional central university unit for distance education, hence it is also responsible for distance teaching programm and project developments at Oldenburg University.

The Master of Business Administration (Euro*MBA)
For professional development:
"The Healing Partnership - A New Model for Healthcare", and
"Training in Online Distance Education".

The work of the Centre for Distance Education has been reflected in numerous publications, some of which are available through the Internet.

The Centre for Distance Education and the School of Education established the Centre for Research in Distance Education to jointly support research and development in distance education at Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg.
