Ah Shyamala, once again I must rise to the challenge. Your statement that online courses are designed
for the matureadult who is seeking knowledge is a powerful
one, but how accurate is it? Are you suggesting that the ability to be anindependent learner is an inate
skill of mature adults? As Moore states in his book Distance
Education A Systems View distance education is easier for people who have the ability to direct
their own learning. Students, including adult ones,who are more
dependent on direction, encouragement, and feedback are less self-directed. We are not discussing anindividual's
willingness to learn, or their ability to be repsonsible
or even mature. Rather we are discussing a discreteskill--the ability to be an autonomous,independent
learner.

I agree with you on this Anthony. You could talk to a professor face to face or online everyday for
a week and still notg get any results. Either way you have
communicated with him/her effectvely. The results depend directly on the professor, not the form of
communication.
