Ah Shyamala, once again I must rise to the challenge. Your statement that online courses are designed for the matureadult who is seeking knowledge is a powerful one, but how accurate is it? Are you suggesting that the ability to be anindependent learner is an inate skill of mature adults? As Moore states in his book Distance Education A Systems View distance education is easier for people who have the ability to direct their own learning. Students, including adult ones, who are more dependent on direction, encouragement, and feedback are less self-directed. We are not discussing anindividual's willingness to learn, or their ability to be repsonsible or even mature. Rather we are discussing a discreteskill--the ability to be an autonomous, independent learner.

I agree with you on this Anthony. You could talk to a professor face to face or online everyday for a week and still notg get any results. Either way you have communicated with him/her effectvely. The results depend directly on the professor, not the form of communication.
