13.13 :-) Sherri to Thomas' intro

13.13.4 :-) Anthony

My views have changed after participating in the last assignment. I began this course very eager and ready to jump in to the distance education arena. After the first few initial interactions, I was a bit put off. I began to think that this form of learning in no way compared to traditional face to face learning. However, I discovered after assignment number three, that I was wrong. The level of group participation and interaction surpassed any form I had encountered in my long traditional education career. The use of this format and email took the conversation to levels of honesty that you do not get in traditional formats. When I say honesty, I mean group members freely expressed there likes and dislikes for group work. Other group members encouraged others to participate and gain from this experience. This created a level of committment and confidence in the group. I believe that if done in the proper format of DE, meaning untilizing the tools necessary to make it succcessful, DE will be the delivery method of choice. Although, there will always be skeptics, I truly belive that in time, DE will far surpass traditional methods of learning.

I don't know if this particular course is representative of the DE program, however, it is unique in my experience as compared to my online experience with UMUC. Granted, maybe my experience in the Masters of Science in Management school is unique to that school. None of the professors had DE specific training, but they were still able to initiate discussion and to take full advantage (fully in some cases since they used multimedia vice only text) of the WebTycho system. If you plan to teach online, however, I think it's still a good option. I, on the other hand, may not continue with the curriculm as I have found a university that offers a Ph.D. in my major field of study which also happens to be my current career path ... Information Systems Management.
