This also poses a problem when a student is unable to grasp the meaning or intent of the written dialogue. Tone and facial and bodyexpressions greatly affect what someone is trying to say. Trying to convey these thoughts through writing can prove difficult. In aface-to-face session a student unable to comprehend the intent of a statement can quickly ask for clarification. In an online settingthey can still ask for clarification but if the individual who made the statement does not log on for several days, they are at a loss. Inthis class acronyms were used a great deal (often without an indication of what they stood for). It often took 2 or 3 days to find outwhat they stood for, and chances are that by then you have moved on to another topic or issue. Receiving immediate feedback inthese types of instances has a completely different effect than receiving delayed feedback.
