13.6 :-? Tea to Thomas' intro

13.6.2 :-) Linda (to whom?)

When comparing face-to-face and online communication; facial expresssions, body language, and tone of voice certainly add to theconnection of a conversation with someone in the same room. On the flip side, however, participants in an online conversation canreflect about what they want to say before replying. They never have to give "off-the-cuff" answers. This benefits shypeople orthose who like thinking before speaking. People who would ordinarily dominate classroom discussions can't readily do so whendiscussing topics online. Additionally, students online benefit from being able to go back through a threaded discussion to digestwhat was said (which is what I did before preparing this response). In a live conversation, unless it's recorded, that's not possible.
