You have confirmed my earlier response to one of our classmates, The absence of peer pressure and judgement allowsthe student to freely express himself/herself without the worrying about a negative response (verbal or nonverbal).

As for not knowing whether you are communicating with the same person from day to day, that is one of the aspects ofDE that cannot be proven entirely. Unless there is an exam at the end of the course, I see no way to positively identifyeach student on a daily basis.

I fail to see this as an issue. If someone is going to cheat, it isn't going to matter.

    Cheating was never my main concern. I was just giving my opinion on her question. However I do disagree with you oncheating not being an issue. Whomever participates in a specific distance education program will ultimately representthat institution wherever they go by using their name. This reflects directly on the institution and the distance education asa whole. It is true that little can be done to prevent cheating in this type of class room environment but everything mustbe done to prevent it.
